View Full Version : GARMIN 296

Does anyone know how to programme flight plans into the Garmin 296? My old Garmin worked a treat and there's no problem with the Skymap IIIC in the Pioneer, but the Garmin on the Gyro has me beat. I noticed the guys going to Strathallan on the video seemed to have routes set up on theirs, so it must be possible. Anyone who knows, and can meet up with me any Sunday (or Monday) at Rufforth I'd be grateful. My home e mail is arnold_parker@btinternet.com and my home phone is 01274 563950.
kind regards, Arnold

Yes, I do it all the time. The way that I do it is on the computer. I boot into Windows and run Mapsource which comes with the 296. I put in any airfields that I will visit and then move some tracks to create waypoints along the route to avoid places that I don't want to fly over, (towns, restricted airspace etc). Then the route can be downloaded to the 296 via the connecting lead.
When you have done it once, it is quite easy.
Have you looked at http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapsourceTutorial.html
There are probably many youtube videos on the web showing yuo how to do it, but the manual is also very good.
