I dunno; I'm planning to go to Old Warden on Saturday morning... might take it with me.

VinceG
14-03-11, 19:37 PM
Why would you take it with you? It's a come and get it cup. You came and got it. Now you've got it, it's up to someone else to "come and get it"

Rick Moss
14-03-11, 19:46 PM
Sorry Vince, I'll re-read the rules. I didn't realise that you could only take it to your home field.

Katie
14-03-11, 20:05 PM
The rules only apply to the cup, it's perfectly OK to take PG to Old Warden :)
....I need an O ;)

Rick Moss
14-03-11, 20:46 PM
I expect there will come a time when you must accept that the Monkey and the Cup are now inseparable.

"PG" is getting more flying hours than many forum members and seeing more airfields too... let him go Katie; he's moved on. :neener:

Katie
14-03-11, 21:23 PM
Yes that true, he's done more flying than I have lately :). But he is a independent monkey and does not need to be encapsulated in the cup, which is an entity in it's own right. Plus we miss him at Chatteris (or some of us do, the CFI is unfortunately very anti-monkey, which I fear is why PG has been so prone to kidnap :( )

OK, as a brand new newby hear I am totally lost... the monkey the cup the Old Warden??? What the heck? The only bit that I understand is the Cup.... but where is the cup and how to you earn to keep the cup, or do you have to pinch it off someone?? Sorry for my incompetence but it is solely due to a lack of knowledge... or not enough flying time.

OK the cup moves around the UK, you cannot keep it. It was at Old Warden, an airfield. If you take the cup then you will find that a PG monkey lives in it, he is a knitted character. When you fly into somewhere and take the cup (and PG) then you tell everyone and someone else comes to your airfield to take it elsewhere. PG and his cup clocks up loads of hours, and you get to meet other forum members and have a reason to fly.

How up to date is this info Vince. It's just that Monkey & Cup have never been to Coal Aston so I thought I would organise a raiding party for the scallywags and give some of you guys an excuse to see the wonderful sights and sounds of a real rough-hole of an airfield.

Monkeys & Cup now resident at Coal Aston, between Sheffield and Chesterfield (in Pooleys and on the charts.)

If you're coming in for a "ram-raid" on the little primates please let me know so I can ensure they will be waiting for you.

In the meantime they're at home with me having a banana sandwich and some dry-roasted nuts. Trouble is one of the Border terrrier's has taken a shine to PG so I'd hurry up to save him from the "advances" of an amourous canine !!:grommit::dogrun:

Hmm, quick check on the charts and that looks like a convenient stop off for a cuppa on the first leg of Fly UK. We don't have the routes yet, but based on the start and the planned destinations, I believe they could be at risk on Saturday 16th (if they're still there!).

Do they have passports and lifejackets for trips abroad to Ireland and Scotland?

Polski
06-06-12, 14:16 PM
If you let me know for definate, I'll make sure the little monkeys are ready for "hostage exchange" plus the Cup.

Cheers Polski,

Someone may get there before me, or the Fly UK route may not suit a raid, but if I can steal them away and take them on tour, the mokeys should get a few good air miles in!

Other flyers, you have 10 days to get in there first!

PM received and replied to.

Cheers

VinceG
06-06-12, 15:19 PM
Remember the rules though Steve. You can only drop them at your own airfield and it must accept visitors.

In other words they must stay in safe hands, not simply left at "mull" or wherever. They do already have more air miles than most forum members ;-)

By all means take them round britain but leave them back at your field when you've done.

SteveTurnbull
06-06-12, 16:58 PM
Understood Vince, they would end up at Broadmeadow awaiting future collection.

May have a hiccup in my plans, but will know by middle of next week.

Katie

And no cable tieing PG or his girlfriend to the front strut like a certain forum member!
PG is accustomed to travelling in style and comfort, it looks like he had a great time flying in the Zenair :)

SteveTurnbull
08-06-12, 11:15 AM
Looks like the monkeys are safe. I've got my route for Fly UK and somehow it has managed to avoid them by a fair few miles!

And I had some nice wide <strike>cable ties</strike> Safety Harnesses ready for them!

If plans change, I'll contact Ade and see if a raid can be fitted in.

Looks like someone else will have to rescue them!

Well, that's bang out of order in my eyes. The cup (and monkey) rules clearly state it must stay in the UK and it's movements must be reported by the person moving it.

I can make a pretty good guess at the individual/organisation responsible, following the Medway Cup debacle.

If anybody would like to come and care to split the fuel cost with me, I'll volunteer to go get it on Sunday, weather and wife permitting. Calton Moor direct to Abbeville, you buy lunch, then back again....

I don't see any mention in the rules (http://www.microlightforum.com/showthread.php?3792-Microlight-Forum-Cup-Purpose-and-Rules) of it staying in the UK, or am I missing something ?
I do see however that it must be collected by a forum member, so I wonder which of us took it to France. I know it wasn't me !

Hi Rick, Did you mean the organisation that you belong to as well.

I can also confirm that the Cup and the monkey are being well looked after. Last seen being in a Red wine drink binge. What a place to do it. I am told from a very good source, that the Cup and the monkey are only to be retrieved / picked up by a british pilot.
Just think of PG having a holiday.,

Hi Rick, Did you mean the organisation that you belong to as well.

I am not a member of the WFAeC Simon. I joined the egroup a couple of years back, but was kicked out soon thereafter for a comment made on this forum; a situation I am entirely happy with.

I am not anti-WFAeC though Simon; far from it. I applaud the goals of the group in assisting fliers push their boundaries and as an information resource for the same. I just find some of the more vocal personalities of the group a little caustic and do not wish to be associated with some of their actions.

Hi all, the chap who took PG to Abberville is a Priory resident who was amused by the whole chasing PG and the cup around different airfields, and obviously decided to 'get involved'. I don't think he's actually a forum member and almost certainly is unaware that foreign trips are a no no. (non non in this case). I'm still not 100% sure he actually left them at Abberville after the photo call? He may've brought them back, and hidden them back at Priory as a 'prank'.
I don't think at this stage we need to start getting all "Medway" hysterical!
Let’s all relax and take some deep breaths.</SPAN>
I do feel slightly responsible for all this,
so I would be happy to split the fuel with Rick for a collection trip if one becomes necessary.

I refer the honourable members to the comments (above) made some moments earlier.

Our chap told me he had left it at Abbeville with strict instructions that it could only be taken back to Blighty.

I gather that our French brethren have embraced the concept with enthusiasm. PG and the cup are in safe hands and there's absolutely no need for Medtway hysteria.

I support Rick in his wish that "the mover" should join us.

However, despite being an intrepid adventurer who flies across great expanses of water, he is a shy introverted chap of short stature and not particularly confident.

I expect to see him tomorrow and will endeavour to persuade him to come out of his shell.

That would make it easier to find and perhaps encourage updating by the current holder.

so you steal the cup from the French liberator, you English swine! The reason the French liberation has adopted monkey. In Hartlepool you hung our ships monkey as a spy, Bonaparte would turn in his grave if he knew you now had control of Mr PG!

Pascale, They were Northerners, not Englishmen that hung the Hartlepool Monkey!

Do not worry, PG is in the hands of Englishmen currently and has his own TV to sit on!

So monsewer, where is the cup now ? I am sure a liberation flight will happen soon. 1066 was a long time ago and we have invaded France at least twice since then. Indeed, we owned a big chunk of it for quite some time. I feel quite sure that our members in France will wish to rescue the monkee.

Yes but if I rescue PG he will end up even further from the channel. Then Bob would have to come and get him :)

Bob has his own team of PG monkeys! There was a picture on here of then going to rescue PG, but I can't find it now. Mine are known as the LFFM (Legion of French Foreign Monkeys). They were asked if they wanted to take part in the Bastille day celebrations and march trough Paris this year, but were not quite ready as they had discovered the a nice case of red wine. At least they have their priorities right.

I did notice when i welcomed Pas in french he didn't reply in french so make your'e own mind up on his country of origin ,i think his real name starts in p or b,as the rules say who ever has him must post his location pronto,as im coming to get him and bring him to the midlands.

The monkey is at stoke in the cafe,so everybody get down there have a breakfast and pick PG up. I'll be purchasing a new cup for Anglo French for the people who don't mind a little bit of water! So you circut bashers loosen that elastic and venture further afield. If anyone has been a little bit peeved by my light hearted humour, that wasn't my intention so I would like to apologise, but don't leave that monkey unguarded! Remember it's only fun so let's keep it that way.

Hi Bruce.

Welcome to the forum. I think you just hit a nerve over recent events with the Medway cup. All sorted now and if the weather works out I'll be looking to collect PG and bring him West to meet his Welsh cousin.....

I don't mind all this incomprehensible chat on the thread, but where can I find at a glance the current cup location.

The map link on Steves first post shows Sheffield, whereas the recent posts suggest Stoke. Maybe I have missed something obvious...

Can we please have a simple list, with airfield name and contact phone number for PPR if required.???

It's at Stoke Frank, where I don't believe PPR is required.

Then again I've failed twice to get him so far, maybe this time?

Steve, if we do France next weekend, I plan to grab him in the way down, take him out on the p1ss with us in France (suitable photographic evidence to be provided), and return him to the uk the following day...

May be easier if you take him back to Broadmeadow, as Calton Moor can be a challenge to find anybody there!

So I just have to get up earlier and get to Stoke before you in order to formally claim the rescue! Or are you likely to be heading down before Saturday? Stoke is pretty much en route for me towards France also, as long as I go around the top of London.

Just want nice weather!

Rick Moss
30-09-12, 20:14 PM
No, I won't be heading over before Saturday, and I'm entirely happy for you to pick it up (you've never had it before, and It'd be better at your place than mine for the next collector).

It saves me touching the ground between Derbyshire and France too! If I give you a call when I'm 45 mins north of Stoke, I'd guess we would be able to meet up somewhere over the south coast to cross the channel.

We are in the Stn TMZ, come in from the west over WARE, cross the A10 just north of Ware, drop to 900 ft QNH, head towards Harlow, when you cross pylons that run parallel with the A414,turn left. that is your coridor [A414--pylons] untill you are Rh angles to airfield and turn in, radio is 129.825.
please avoid villages, and local housing, but you are all wecome

Good Luck, I have lost count of the times I've tried to get PPR through both Adrian and the published number, the few times I've got a reply from Adrian it was days later, which is of little use.

Fair point maybe it should be stashed at the field so it can simply be picked up !
