  1. I should know better.

The old Rans I bought to do up over the Winter just didn't come off. I gave up and stopped flying apart from a last landing on 06 in a howling crosswind at OS and a gentle jolly out of a farm strip near Salisbury.
To keep up the licence needs me to fly about eight hours this year and at £150 an hour it is pretty expensive just to keep current. Better to have something to show for it. Like another MiniMax. I was just getting the hang of them when the engine quit.

  2. Where have the last 8 years gone?

Where have the last 8 years gone? Back in 2012 I was on a mission to lose weight and try and take up microlighting. Or at least try it.

In fact it all came to naught.

I won’t bore anyone with the torrid details, but it involved a separation, divorce, house purchase, engagement, house sale, house purchase and wedding.

Shall we say it’s been a busy few years – and when a boss at work asks where I plan ...

  3. Updating...

When one's prospective aircraft is a couple of hundred miles away, it is very difficult not to plot improvements and would like accessories. Now this old Rans is going to be put back into flying order and I'm going to add NOTHING.
Until a mode S transponder came up for $99. Once I had bought the connectors, antenna and an altitude encoder then paid the shipping and the customs duty, the whole setup cost just under £200. Then somebody got fed up with a project and offered me new uprated lift ...

  4. 2019 updated.

The Max dumped me in the New forest. I bought an S6, a nice one and moved it to Old Sarum the week that the axe fell so a week later it was gone, unflown by me. I sold all my bits and bobs and gave up flying having had a whole lot of fun.
Game over and thanks for all the fish.

I had just begun to get used to not worrying about aeroplanes when somebody offered me hangarage. Local hangarage.
I resolved to take it on for six months and look for an aeroplane. If I didn't ...

  5. 2019 Update.

The MiniMax stayed due lack of money for something bigger and the fun I was getting from it. This Winter's upgrades are nearly done. Ten more litres of tankage,, streamlined struts, a choke to help with starting, I hope, and a new propeller. I am busily trying to make glass fibre fairings to cut the drag down and plan to fit a rear tank to get me up to forty litres so I can get around a bit more. Targets for this year will be making some long journeys.
