    Straying into controlled airspace

Flew today from Headon to Boston a pair of microlights together we got matz crossing approved for Waddington and Conningsby but not Cranwell I am running airbox clarity and the other flex sky
deamon both GPS showed we never got within half a mile of Cranwell,s airspace
According to Waddington radar we both entered controlled airspace and were asked to vacate emmediately however GPS track said not.
Who is correct both our GPS or Waddington,s radar neither of us were transponder equipt.
We did adjust our track I was tempted to shout up and augue the toss but I decided against it.

Because they fly sensitive stuff from there best not argue, there may have been a reason for keeping at a further distance, don't forget we are at critical state of attack, and what's based at Waddington I'm not surprised as there were more than one of you

I always though a MATZ was not controlled airspace and you don't need to have permission to enter. The ATZ is entirely different of course. having said that I always steer clear anyway.

A MATZ takes its airspace status from the airspace in which it is situated, Class G in the cases of Waddington, Coningsby, Cranwell and Barkston Heath. Class G is not controlled airspace. It is sensible to ask for a MATZ crossing but you are not obliged to ask.

Perhaps you entered/were alleged to enter an ATZ which is of course CAS.

Do you mean Cranwell's MATZ or the ATZ within it? The MATZ isn't controlled airspace. But they may well have been busy at Cranwell and you can understand the controller at Waddington being careful. Do you know that they had you positively identified on radar (given no transponder)? Nevertheless they should have REQUESTED you alter course. But as Dave says, its better not to argue (apart from anything else you dont need the stress). And its no good being right and dead.

What altitude were you at? MATZ goes up to 3000' aal, ATZ to 2000'.

You could always ring them up and ask nicely if they could discuss it with you.

A chap I know was accused of entering CAS when he was nowhere near at the time - many miles away. To prove it, he downloaded the GPS data and sent it to the controller who's details he had obtained by phone on landing. He never heard any more.

I think it's really going to hit the fan very soon and we may have more airspace restrictions

We had both been identifeid on radar after flying on various track,s to identify us. Waddington was aware that we we a pair of microlights flying in formation.
We were never near the ATZ just just the Matz at 1200 feet. I may give them a ring tomorrow just to clarify what they saw on radar maybe the radar is not that accurate with out a transponder
