My entry, from the Red Bull Air Race in Budapest this weekend.
The three most useless things in aviation:
    • The air above you.
    • The runway behind you.
    • The fuel in the bowser.

Rule #1: Always tie your aircraft to the largest heaviest object available. The planet Earth meets these requirements and is readily available in all locations.
Rule #2: The great thing about twin engined aircraft is, if one engine fails, the other engine always has just enough power to get you to the scene of the crash.

Semper specto in clara parte vitae.

    Landing with a torn sail

Discovered during pre-flight departure checks at Kirkwall, the tear is believed to have been caused by an escaped leather glove, that jumped overboard somewhere in the bay area north of Kirkwall.
A weird "bump" was felt about 10 minutes before the start of this video, but a quick look around, I didn't see the damage and the microlight still flew OK.
Focus then taken by Kirkwall Tower talking to departing and arriving aircraft, so I pressed on.
'Tight' right base was my decision to prevent delaying a Loganair departure.
Turning base sooner might have worried the controller?
End result - a long drive with a trailer and ferry journeys....and a new sail.

Huge thanks to Loganair for allowing me to use of a corner of their hanger, and for hangaring my microlight for 5 days until I returned to pick it up.

“everybody dies, but not everybody lives” .... The quote that led to my first microlight flight, August 2012.
