    Quantum 503

G-MZGG. a Quantum 503, excellent condition, the wing was 300 hours old but I would wager there wasn`t a better one around.
I did my first solo in GG too so although I didnt have her long she will always have a place in my heart.

Just bought one. Can't wait to get going in the Quantum 503. Have it in my hanger now. Just need to spend a day or two cleaning, Washing and polishing. I'll post pics soon.

I had a quantum 582 for 6 years, only sold it 2 months ago, several times I had a go in a 503 Quantum.....couldn't really tell the difference ......except the 503 engine never blows up,very cheap to maintain,no radiator to worry about......and the best news, a 503 Quantum is always a couple of grand cheaper than the equivalent 582.

    Twin carb 503....52hp
    Standard 582 twin carb....55 hp

Given the choice for a new pilot.....503 every time

Thread resurrection again. Only really getting to fly the Quantum in anger now. Have not even logged 20 hours in it yet, although that is changing. I logged 4.5 hours on Saturday and 3.5 hours the weekend before. Half the hours logged so far by myself in G-BZJO have been logged in the last month. I love this plane, it is a nice step up from a Pegasus XL 462. Hoping to log 60 hours in it this year. Next job is to retension the Fan Belt, first time owning an aircraft with a 503, so that will be a job I am looking forward to experiencing.
I can't see myself selling this Quantum for a long time. It is currently cruising at 55-60 mph burning just 10 lph. Climb solo at 800-1,000 fpm. Nice and solid on a 2 hour leg, i'm really happy with the performance.

quantum is my fave trike one day i will own one .my 503 f2a is great and will do everything at 50mph . was up the other day with a mate next to me in the same airspace as it where in his blade 912 ,he had to make a precautionary landing due to carb ice we decided later as it was during the decent just below a bank of mist but my trusty old 503 kept on plodding away ,his never stopped just vibrated and ran rough .

dont get me wrong the 912's are brill as we all know but the 503 is on the f2a i have at the moment so its nice to have a little confidence in it.

BUT they all have the potential to stop don't they so i never forget that either .

lovely aircraft that mate .well gel.

Worth bearing in mind 503 has been discontinued by Rotax for some time, and spares will get increasingly harder - so it's days are numbered. Whearas the is still in production and Rotax have no plans to discontinue it.

If you have the 55hp582 with strangled exhaust my advice is to throw that away and treat it to the proper exhaust, release that 65hp, and running like it was designed to it then cures the mid range EGT hot spot the strangled exhaust produces!
