    Googled the CT-44, and it does look as though that's what you're looking for - 3,5mm 4-pole jack to 3.5mm (2-pole headphone) and 2.5mm (3-pole mic and ptt) sockets. This would make the Yaesu 'look' just like an Icom A3 or later.
    I think the CT91 is similar, but the sockets are for a GA headset (1/4" phone and 3/16" mic). One of these already comes with the FT-550, in the box.

    Many thanks for your help. As they are only 10.00 or so I will give it a try. I think it's CT-96 in the box.
    For your information and anyone else following this thread, I rang Lynx and of course they want you to return the unit for modification? The most surprising piece of info is that they recon to have had these 9v radios at 12V input for what was described as hundreds of hours with no problem. You can of course choose for yourself!
