    Flying Lessons S E England

    Hi

I'm looking to start flex wing training in the near future in the West Sussex/Surrey area. I would like to get to know and become involved in a flying club before starting lessons next spring.

Please can anyone recommend flying schools within the West Sussex or Surrey area.

    Many thanks for your assistance.

    Colin

    Hi Colin,
I hope I'm wrong, but I think you may have to be prepared to ravel a fair distance to get flexwing training. South East is a bit of a desert as far as fllexwing training is concerned - a bit like parts of the North being local deserts for three-axis training.

Maybe a general topic for discussion?

    Hi

Many thanks for the reply, I think you are correct in stating flexwing training is not available in the areas I am looking at.

I reviewed the website that Sean kindly forwarded but was unable to find any reasonably local, however I am prepared to travel if required.

    Thanks again for the reply.

Surrey and Sussex is not the South East.

We have two flex wing instructors in Kent.

Matt Robbins, http://www.fly-microlights.co.uk is based at Rochester.

Chris Childs, http://www.kentmicrolightschool.com/index.html is based at Headcorn. Not sure if Chris has a flex at the moment, but he can instruct in a student's own aircraft.

Worth contacting either one of them.

Oh come off it, Steve! Where are they then?
They certainly are in the SE region as far as the BMAA map of schools and clubs is concerned. Though I admit it's a bit arbitrary as regards the way it divides the country. For most folk it's worth searching in their neighbouring area, of course, cos something just the other side of the line may be nearest. Bit like how the place you are interested in is always on the edge of the map...
Actually it's best to use the postcode search option on the BMAA site.

I meant that there are other parts of S. E England other than Sussex and Surrey. Kent is also part of S E England.

    Oh! OK my apologies.
The region the Sean's wiki link shows is most odd too. Most of it looks like the Midlands to me. Anyway it explains the odd shaped of the region's on the BMAA map. Which as I implied is not really very helpful when trying to find a school...
