    Landing light wiring

    Hi Guys
I am adding a landing light to my plane to be seen better when in the pattern. Looking at the DRG is this wiring correct. Also what size fuse for a 12v 55w light.

    Thanks
    Martin

I would put the fuse between the master and the switch to protect the switch also

    A 12V 55W light will draw just under 5A (55 divided by 12 = 4.583). A 7.5A fuse should fit the bill.
In theory, you could use a 5A fuse, but your nominal 12V supply may typically be at around 14.5V when the generator is running and you would risk blowing the 5A fuse in normal use.

Is the landing light the only thing coming off the master? There should also be (maybe there already is) a fuse between the battery and the master switch ~ that fuse and wiring should be chunky enough to handle the total load switched by the master.

I take it you've checked BMAA TIL110 and/or the much more complicated LAA TL3.26

    Hi Madanbreak back

The master at the moment has its own 24amp fuse .The from the master each switch for Avionics, Radio, Gps and 12v power supply for Ipad each have there own 2amp fuse. So running a new fused switch for landing light is well with in the total current draw.
Yes i have checked these out and spoken the LAA ( as my plane is LAA registered ) about this and got the required forms.

    Hi
This is what the back of the panel looks like at the moment and now including the new switch for the landing light.

Fuses are to protect the wiring prevent fire and additional equipment failure ..it may not be as simple as many think .
looms with multiple wires drawing current add further complications .
But consider the fire in the wire during a dead short as a long run of thin wire will burn up before the fuse in some cases.

12 volts is usually 13.8 and fuses can create their own issues unless mounted clear of corrosion sources and accessible.
Not easy in a trike .

there are many great surface mounted cob leds around now that are 100w plus and mount well to flat aluminum surfaces
several alternating flashing leds can be very effective for self visibility .
5 bucks each now and water resistant .
