    Set the radio back to factory settings (see manual) and try again......probably won’t do anything

    Cheers for that Andy will try that next time I'm at airfield. Will also try side tone, as squelch is on full Think its about 18 but not sure of number but turned up full

    Garry you need the squelch on a lower setting. Back it right off until it's '''open" all the time .ithats when you can hear lots of background noise. Then increase the squelch slowly until the background noise just goes away. Leave the squelch on that setting. Received signal s should now open the squelch so you can hear them.
    If you do this with the engine off you may need to adjust with the engine running - you're trying to get a setting where it's quiet even though there is electrical noise from the ignition, but where radio signals will open the squelch.
    It's easier to do than it is to explain.
    Think of the squelch as a switch that only turns the reciever on when a strong enough signal is there.
