In France, there are ULM fly-ins both national and local throughout the summer and eg at Ste Foy la Grande there was a hangar sauerkraut and sausages nosh-up just before Christmas that you could drive to or fly into (if you were brave). I'd have gone except I was stuck in the UK trying (and failing) to get my Ex-Pat X-Air out and across the Channel to France.

The answer is that things only happen if people organise them and then I think that the general experience is that folks rally round and support them. But it mainly comes down to how active clubs are because you obviously need an airfield that's big enough to take a reasonable number of parked aircraft and accessible with a safe runway that less experienced pilots are happy to land on.

However, my own opinion based on experience in the UK is that many suitable locations have a 'not likely, we don't want to upset the neighbours' attitude that prevents events even being considered in the first place, that doesn't apply here in France.

Since they've moved the AGM to Popham weekend, I suspect it is.

Pity really because it provided something for the dull months and was far less weather dependent than a fly-in location. IIRC it was becoming financially unviable.
