There has to be a way of getting them off the logged-in members list on the front page surely.
Roger, thanks for the suggestion. I did actually delete a bunch of banned usernames a while back.
The robots running the sign-ups then re-registered them, meaning I had to ban them again.

I don't have the time to learn how to stop them from re-registering, so mass banning is what you get.

Yeah, that's why you need a barred users list so eventually they run out of name variants. Surprised if paid-for software like this doesn't have that facility. Mine was free at the time, forget the name now as it was a while ago.

Most forum software supports banned user names.

A ban on using porn, *porn and porn* in a user name stops any user name with the word porn from being registered.

That would stop less than 1% of the fake registrations.

But you can add some of the other common ones to that list, unless the names are random, in which case, not an avenue worth pursuing.

Had some success with this on another forum.

Thank for re-instating me Clive....I'm still laughing at being banned for NOT posting but I fully understand as I'm sure you must get inundated with spammers!

No harm done and I'll go back to my little corner here in Southern Spain.

    cheers
