Hi Peter. Thank you for your reply, you are correct, numerous plugs, new leads and a full strip down and rebuild change cranks, pistons etc etc. If one of the stator coils is iffy, why does it change with the temp. It is very single time and only till warmed up, I'm guessing it can't be humidity within the coils, especially with this summers temps.

    regards

I've had motorcycle magnetos that do exactly the same thing. Sometimes they are a bugger to get going, but perform faultlessly when warmed up, other times they start the engine at first prod, then begin to misfire or allow the plug to foul after a few minutes.
The same can be true of any electrical connection.

There are some very good articles here which give very good explanations on various aspects of Rotax 2-stroke engines in general. There are a couple of specific Ducati ignition articles to look for; 'Troubleshooting the Ducati Ignition' and 'Utilizing the Ducati Generator Output'. https://www.cps-parts.com/catalog/rtxpages/articles.php

I'm sure they will confirm for you every bit of fault diagnosis above and give you a good insight as to how they work.

One of two reasons - as the coil warms up, the resistance goes up, or because as things expand within the coil, the shorted turn that's doing the damage "unshorts". I think the reason the coils drop in resistance over time is because the enamel used to insulate the wire gives up its job in various places, and turns get shorted.

    YMMV.
