    Tablet

Currently using skydemon on a nexus 7 in the Quik but thinking of a slightly larger screened unit, looking at the samsung tab A or the lenovo m8.
Biggest concern is the screen readability in sunlight, anyone using these 8 inch tabs, cheers
    G-HAMS a pretty quick Quik

I can't remember the details, but some years back Steve U did an article (or series) on using a 'rooted Kindle' as a display unit making best use of the Kindle's reflective display.

I don't know if the prinicple can be applied to newer technology.

    Hi,

Don't forget compatibility with polarized sun glasses, in case you wear such kind.

    Cheers,

It can be applied to newer technology, and without rooting.

The Onyx Boox Poke or Poke Pro can have the Play Store loaded and then the apps loaded from there. You will need to Bluetooth GPS data into the device from an external GPS as this e-reader like most of them has no internal GPS or pressure sensor. Some apps need to be side loaded as they don't think the Poke Pro is a suitable device to run on.

I'm currently using a Poke Pro with an external Pressure sensor and GPS for paragliding.

A simpler solution is to buy a Yotaphone 2 or Yotaphone 3, a phone with two screens, one on each side, one LCD, one e-ink. These are standard Android, internal GPS, and will load things like Easy VFR or SkyDemon.

The HiSense A5 is another option:

Don't forget delivery time and import duty.

The Poke Pro screen is not as fast to respond, but is outstanding in daylight.

Here are some pictures, includes a comparison with a Samsung Galaxy Tab in full sunlight.

There's a review of the HiSense A5 here:

but the guy is obsessed by speed rather than sunlight visibility.

Screen refresh modes on e-ink are much slower, so you will be using North up, or you will struggle with the redrawing rate or ghosting if you run the highest refresh rate.

It's not a well supported route, but it's cheap.

You could also look at the Syride Sys'Evo, but this is a dedicated instrument and not for SkyDemon.
