Bobby are you doing your studying with the Microlight text book written by Brian Cosgrove...that covers only what you need to know for microlight rather than the more involved GA type licence,

    See link.

Hi Nickjaxe, thanks for the comments & the links, yes i was lucky in that my instructor gave me a copy of Brian Cosgroves book on my first lesson, i also run through the microlight Malta Club site questions, I dont know how true they are to the actual exam ? but certainly look less complicated then the full GA type licence.
If the weather does what its suposed to do i will be flying on monday..Bobby

Just passed my GST at 70 (years, not mph) at the beginning of the month. Started in Jan 2013, it took me just under 39 hours, (13 solo, 25.5 dual) to my GST. Also picked up my radio licence on the way. A couple of books I used along with "Cossy" were "The A to Z of microlighting" by Chris Stow - this had the 3 axis and weight-shift syllabuses, so you knew what to expect in the next lesson, and "Air law for microlight pilots" by Geoff Weighell - this, to me, explained air law clearer than Cosgrove.
Concentrate on the flying, the exam questions will then make more sense when you come to them.
Try and keep your lessons evenly spaced with not too much time in-between them - I didn't fly for about 8 weeks last summer and needed a couple of lessons to "remember everything". Also, once you're flying solo, keep on practising stalls, climbs, turns etc., - my instructor climbed back in with me after I'd been solo for a few hours doing navigation land-aways and GFP, told me to do a few maneuvers and then commented " I knew it, you're the same as everyone else after they go solo, you've been swanning around up here enjoying yourself and not practicing!"

    You CAN do it!

    Ross

Hi Ross, many thanks for the info, its a big help when you hear from others trying to achieve the same goal. At the moment the weather seems to be against me, last 3 flights have been cancelled one for wind and the other two for cloud. Any way like you say keep practicing ! I am looking forward to doing circuits and then hopefully Solo, Cheers for now, Best wishes Bob
